BLACK CREEK HOUSE

Framing views of the wooded landscape, existing mature oak trees, and a steep ravine were the motives for placing a series of simple structures in a configuration that would enhance the appreciation of this unique site on a 500 acre farm. Intended as an age-in-place home for the couple, the house is equipped with essential open living spaces and sleeping accommodations for grown children and grandchildren, as well as a painting studio for the husband. The interior spaces of the home wrap around a pool and outdoor living areas, and feature natural materials that make reference to the indigenous landscape of the site. Careful attention has been placed on the approach to the house, filtering in distant views of the structure against the trees, and gradually unfolding the exterior spaces as a winding driveway leads to a parking court.
