CABERNET HUNTING LODGE

Cabernet is a weekend hunting lodge built in phases between 1991 and 2016 – it’s a family compound that adapts to a growing, extended family and friends. The simple geometry of the structure stands in stark contrast to the rugged natural environment, while a neutral palette of galvanized metal and dark bronze serve as a backdrop, highlighting the changing colors of the leaves and seasons. The building consists of a great room finished in standard fir construction plywood and a bedroom tower (on stilts) that hovers above the ground, and being elevated, provides spectacular views of the countryside. The building constantly provides a framed edge through which to view the natural landscape.
